When I’m exercising, it doesn’t matter how long the stopwatch
runs after I stop, none of those seconds count.
When we’re walking through life, it doesn’t matter how many
years we live after we stop following the Lord Jesus, none of those years
count.
God told Ezekiel, “But
when a righteous person turns away from his righteousness and does injustice
and does the same abominations that the wicked person does, shall he live? None
of the righteous deeds that he has done shall be remembered; for the treachery
of which he is guilty and the sin he has committed, for them he shall die”
(Ezekiel 18:24).
When the apostle Paul initially spoke of a man named Demas he
described him as one of his partners in ministry who shared in the greetings
sent to the Colossian Christians (Colossians 4:14), and as a “fellow worker” (Philemon 1:24).
However, he later had to present this sad testimony, “For Demas, in love with
this present world, has deserted me” (II Timothy 4:10).
It is no wonder that
Scripture clarifies that “the one who
endures to the end will be saved” (Matthew 24:13). If the stopwatch of life
is still running, make sure you are still running the race with perseverance
until the very end (Hebrews 12:1-3).
