Why “In2Freedom”?
My early years of walking with God brought me to a reasonable
understanding of salvation from sin. I knew I was a sinner in need of a Savior,
and I knew Jesus was the only one who could save me from my sin. Once I
received Jesus, I was saved. I was also quite sure I was growing up in my usual
slow and steady pace.
One day I was confronted with a very painful discovery.
Traumatic childhood experiences can seriously restrict a person’s freedom to mature
in Jesus Christ. I didn’t have a clue what to do about this. What was I to tell
people who had received Jesus as their Lord and Savior but had such an inner feeling
of worthlessness that they had lost all hope of living? Wanting to die has a
bad effect on growing up!
Over time, I realized that the same promises of God that brought
people to surrender to the life-giving freedom of salvation, were also
promising the life-changing freedom of transformation. As God’s word says so
plainly, “he who began a
good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6).
God beginning a good work in people is
salvation, the first freedom. The journey of God bringing that good work to
completion is transformation, the second freedom. In2Freedom simply aims to present
ample teaching and testimony concerning what God does to save us and make us
his children, and what God then continues to do to lead us to maturity in Jesus
Christ.
A favorite quote from the Bible is this: “And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord
who is the Spirit” (II Corinthians 3:18). My aim is to contribute what I
have been given to encourage this along in anyone who wants it.
(Note: in the fall of 2021 I was interviewed for a podcast that turned into a testimony of how God led us into home church ministry, and what we are about as a church. You can hear our story in this blogpost which includes a video accompaniment to the audio of the interview: In2Freedom: Our Home Church Story (Podcast Version))
