Getting to Know Jesus in the Gospel of Mark
Study Four: Mark 1:14-15
14 Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee,
proclaiming the gospel of God, 15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the
kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
1. Mark
introduced his record with the declaration: “The
beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God” (vs 1). What does
it mean that he now adds the description, “the
gospel of God” (vs 14)?
2. What
connection do you see between Mark’s reference to Isaiah’s prophecy about
someone who would come and prepare the way for the Lord (vss 2-3; see study
one), and Jesus’ reference to, “the time
is fulfilled”?
3. Since the nation
of Israel at that time thought that they were the kingdom of God, what was
Jesus’ declaring in his announcement that “the
kingdom of God is at hand”?
4. How does the
partnership between “repent” and “believe in the gospel” prepare people
for life in God’s kingdom?
5. If this were a
personal conversation between you and Jesus, how would the rest of the
conversation go?
