Getting to Know Jesus in the Gospel of Mark
Study Three: Mark 1:9-13
9 In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was
baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 And when he came up out of the water,
immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him
like a dove. 11 And a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you
I am well pleased.”
1. What is God
telling you about himself with the connection between Jesus, the Spirit, and
the voice from heaven?
2. What does God
want you to think about Jesus with his declaration from heaven?
3. What are the
implications for you if you accepted that declaration as true?
12 The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness.
13 And he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. And he was
with the wild animals, and the angels were ministering to him.
4. The Bible
describes Jesus as, “one who in every
respect has been tempted as we
are, yet without sin” (Hebrews 4:15). What do you
think it means that Jesus was led by the Spirit to begin his ministry with this
season of temptation without ever giving in to sin?
