"The LORD reigns,
let the earth rejoice" (Psalm 97:1).
While people
try to care for a deteriorating planet in the hope of ensuring a green future
for our children and grandchildren, the earth itself rejoices in this one
thing: "The LORD reigns".
The red dragon
has a short-lived opportunity to trash God's good and beautiful creation. The
cancer of sin ravages the very earth that groans under the weight of its
bondage. But the earth rejoices because it has felt the piercing, penetrating
foot of a cross that stood out from every other cross; and it felt the drops of
blood that were different from every other blood that was shed; for the earth
knew that the Savior, its Creator, had come to redeem a people for himself, and
that "the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption
and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God" (Romans 8:21).
Now, as the
Psalm-writer said, and Revelation 4 makes so clear: "The LORD reigns, let
the earth rejoice!"
