Considerations ~ How the Beloved Love

1 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. 2 And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. (Ephesians 5)

Emphasis: The fact that Jesus’ disciples are “beloved children” affirms the big picture of constantly being loved by God. Our experience of being “beloved” or “dearly loved” is what gives us what we need to live a life of imitating God and continuously walking in love. The focus on “as Christ loved us” (past tense), does not mean his love ended in the past. It simply reminds us of that great and grand event when Jesus “gave himself up for us” on the cross. Remembering that glorious and undeniable demonstration of God’s love at Calvary brings to mind the kind of love that is still being expressed to the “beloved children” today, and so that gift and expression of love to us fills us with the experience of love we pass on to others.
