People often consider repentance and faith issues of our entrance into salvation. Repentance is changing our minds about our life of sin so that we now know we would rather have Jesus’ kingdom of righteousness, peace, and joy in his Holy Spirit. Faith is changing our minds about Jesus so that we would much rather trust him in a life-giving relationship than stand against him in childish rebellion.
However, not only does this change of heart and mind deliver us out of the domain of darkness and transfer us into the kingdom of God’s beloved Son,[1] it also enables us to both experience and maintain our freedom in Christ. To get free, we must change our minds (repent) about our love of sarky-selfishness and the fruit it is bearing in our lives, and must turn our faith to love for God and his kingdom. To maintain freedom, we must keep our minds on the Holy Spirit so we can live by faith in Jesus Christ in everything we face.
In this home church message, we consider how repentance and faith will both lead us to freedom in Christ, and maintain the freedom that is freely given to us in our Savior. We must know how this works for us, and how to lead others to experience such freedom for themselves.
