Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the
week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. And behold, there
was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came
and rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and
his clothing white as snow. And for fear of him the guards trembled and became
like dead men. But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know
that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he
said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples
that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee;
there you will see him. See, I have told you.” So they departed quickly from
the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. And behold,
Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of his
feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell
my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”
While they were going, behold, some of the guard went into the
city and told the chief priests all that had taken place. And when they had
assembled with the elders and taken counsel, they gave a sufficient sum of
money to the soldiers and said, “Tell people, ‘His disciples came by night and
stole him away while we were asleep.’ And if this comes to the governor's ears,
we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” So they took the money and
did as they were directed. And this story has been spread among the Jews to
this day. (Matthew 28:1-15)
Because the Scripture I’m sharing is long (kinda) I will keep the rest of this short. The contrast between the spread of the gospel to all the nations by people who share it for free and the money-making swindlers who deceive people about the resurrection of Jesus Christ is of the “nothing new under the sun” category.
Jesus spoke about “false
Christs and false prophets” (Matthew 24:23-27). The apostles spoke about “scoffers”
and “peddlers of God's word”. When admitting that in the Scriptures, “There are
some things in them that are hard to understand,” Peter continued, “which the
ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other
Scriptures.”
I am on day 101 of
responding to a book of false teachings that was ridiculously priced even for a
digital copy! And the guy has a whole trilogy dissing God, his word, and his
Son. People are still making money telling people to disbelieve the Bible.
Why is this? Jesus said,
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have
life and have it abundantly” (John 10:10). Satan lures people into the
financial benefits of stealing, killing, and destroying people’s knowledge of
the “good news of great joy” about salvation in Jesus Christ.
However, Jesus continues
to give people “life” so they can “have it abundantly”, and he spreads this
message throughout the world by people who will not only share it “free of
charge” as Paul said, but who will pay the price of sharing it, sometimes even
with their own lives.
The proof of Jesus’
resurrection is in the Scriptures. The Scriptures are offered free online by
sites like www.biblegateway.com. The
link below is to the first chapter of the gospel of Matthew using the
ESV (English Standard Version). Read the Bible for yourself, for free, and find
for yourself the “good news of the kingdom”. The world is paying the price for
its deception; Jesus has paid the price for your salvation.
