And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from
top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split. The tombs also
were opened. And many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, and
coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and
appeared to many. When the centurion and those who were with him, keeping watch
over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe
and said, “Truly this was the Son of God!” (Matthew 27:51-54)
The bottom line is that when Jesus died and the temple curtain was torn from top to bottom, it sealed in history that the way into the Most Holy Place was permanently open to all who would receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
The book of Hebrews
in the Bible is an amazing explanation of how Jesus is greater than all the
earthly representations. Chapters 9 and 10 explain the opening of the Most Holy Place through Jesus’ blood, and I encourage you to read them.
However, I want to
do a bit of right-brain full-hearted work here with anyone who has or will
confess Jesus Christ as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from
the dead. I invite you to look inside and see if you have confidence to enter
God’s presence that matches the completeness of what Jesus did for you on the
cross.
Yes, the way we
worship Jesus for opening the way into the Most Holy Place is by boldly going
into the Most Holy Place to meet with God. Let me share this from Hebrews:
Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:14-16)
THAT is what Jesus opened
for us at the moment of his death when the curtain of the temple was torn in
two. It… is… FINISHED!!!
