One of the very special things about the book of Revelation
is that we can see the pictures before we can explain them. This is a gift of
God to his children of all ages.
In the same way as we would go into an art gallery where we
see a beautiful painting, and instantly have that image in our brains, so we
come to the museum of Revelation and instantly picture the things John
describes.
In the same way as our physical eye reveals a painting to
the brain, holding it as a real thing even before giving any thought to the
details of who the artist is, who was the intended audience, when was the
painting created, what colors were used, and what meaning did the artist wish
to convey, so the spiritual eyes of the believer see the pictures painted in
the words of the Revelation, receives them as the beautiful expressions of the
artistry of God, and holds them as real pictures of real things even before we
are able to determine what all God aims to communicate to our souls through the
things revealed.
When we can accept that the pictures are worth a thousand
words, we can fully accept the pictures as revealed, and let the thousands of
words speak to us through a lifetime of meditation on the breathed-out words of
God. God has spoken. In pictures. Come and experience the wonder of his gifts
to his children… as little children.
