Considerations ~ The Necessity and Provision of Cleansing

          The only explanation I could find for the “sea” that Solomon placed in the temple was this: “the sea was FOR the priests to wash in” (II Chronicles 4:6). It was provided for the priests to wash in because it was necessary for the priests to be washed. It is a continuing reminder that God does not confront us with the necessity of our cleansing without providing the means of our cleansing. Even in the Garden of Eden, God followed his condemnation of Adam’s sin with the promise that someone would come who could crush the head (authority and power) of the red dragon, and liberate a people from the penalty, power, and presence of sin.
          This mercy always accompanies the work of God until the end because he has chosen to surround himself with a people who are his very own, transformed into the image and likeness of his Son, but he can only have these people if he cleanses them from all that is different than his Son. 
          The glassy sea that is before the throne of God is an eternal reminder that no one comes to the throne of God without cleansing and purification from sin. It is also an eternal declaration of hope that everyone who comes to God through the cleansing of the gospel of Jesus Christ is purified of all unrighteousness, and made fit to come before God as a kingdom of priests; sons of God loving their Father through the Son of God, their firstborn Brother.
