Getting to Know Jesus in the Gospel of Mark
Study Twenty-Nine:
Mark 6:7-13
7 And he called the twelve
and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean
spirits. 8 He charged them to take
nothing for their journey except a staff—no bread, no bag, no money in their
belts— 9 but to wear sandals and not
put on two tunics. 10 And he said to
them, “Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you
depart from there. 11 And if any place
will not receive you and they will not listen to you, when you leave, shake off
the dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them.” 12 So they went out and proclaimed that people
should repent. 13 And they cast out
many demons and anointed with oil many who were sick and healed them. (Mark 6)
1. At this point, Jesus
“began” to do something different. How does the sending out of the twelve help
us understand what Jesus was setting up in the world?
2. What purpose do
you think was to be served with the instructions Jesus gave to his disciples in
verses 8-9?
3. What value was Jesus
teaching his disciples by telling them to stay in only one house during the
time they were in any given community? (vs 10)
4. What preparation
did Jesus give his disciples with the instructions about places that would not
listen to them? (vs 11)
5. What was the
essence of the message the disciples were given? How does this relate to the
message Jesus was preaching?
6. What is the
connection between Jesus’ authority (vs 7), and the disciples ability (vs 13)?
7. Which part of
this passage speaks to you the most about what God is doing in your life?
