This morning these two Scriptures came
together in a very encouraging way:
“For
it stands in Scripture:” (I Peter 2:6) reminds us that whatever has been
written in God’s word will stand, while all the scary events and circumstances
of history will be wiped out forever.
“So
then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions that you were taught by
us, either by our spoken word or by our letter.” (II Thessalonians 2:15) It
is God’s word that will stand true forever. Scoffers will be silenced when they
witness the fulfillment of every promise and prophecy of God still waiting for
the fullness of their time. Therefore, God’s children are to stand firm on the
eternally standing words of God.
God’s children must not be shaken by the
things that will be shaken, but must stand firm on the words of God that stand
in Scripture.
For it stands in Scripture: “Behold, I am
laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and whoever believes
in him will not be put to shame.” (I Peter 2:6)
14 To this he called you
through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
15 So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to
the traditions that you were taught by us, either by our spoken word or by our
letter. (II Thessalonians 2)
