When you feel discouraged about prayer
because what you see in and around you appears so hopeless, consider this:
The Father to whom you pray in Jesus’ name
created the universe out of nothing (Genesis 1).
The Savior in whose name you pray created
man out of dirt (Genesis 2).
The Spirit in whom you pray is the Spirit of
him who raised Jesus Christ from the dead (Romans 8:11).
The God to whom we pray made us alive in his
Son while we were dead in our trespasses and sins, walking according to the
course of this world, and following the prince of the power of the air
(Ephesians 2:1-10).
The question is not whether this same God
will fail to do what is good and acceptable and perfect (Romans 12:2) in
whatever impossible circumstances in which we find ourselves, but why we are
walking by sight instead of by faith (II Corinthians 5:7). Sight is blind. Faith
knows whom it has believed.
“But you, beloved, building yourselves up in
your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the
love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to
eternal life” (Jude 1:20-21).
“For this reason I bow my knees before the
Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according
to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power
through his Spirit in your inner being” (Ephesians 3:14-16).
