Home Church Video ~ The Disciples’ Prayer ~ Part 6 ~ “Our Daily Bread”

Going through the Disciples’ prayer is a mixture of familiar ground and new discoveries. It is like taking a trip back to a familiar location so that we can experience fresh reminders of things we have previously enjoyed while anticipating what new treasures we may find.

This particular request of, “Give us this day our daily bread”, was very strong on the “new discoveries” side of things. The mindset of this petition is woven throughout God’s word. Searching the Scriptures to understand what Jesus means leads to the discovery that we cannot simply toss out a prayer for daily provisions. This is about Jesus teaching us how to think about everything in relation to everything.

In the end, this was one of the most profoundly transforming aspects of the Disciples’ prayer, for not only did it remind us that our daily needs are of great concern to our Father in heaven, but also that the mindset of living one day at a time is a much-needed focus in our present world.

The bottom line is that faith does not live in the past where either the good old days or the childhood traumas exert more influence over us than the present activity of the Spirit. Neither does faith live in the future where our present decisions are ruled by things we imagine may happen up ahead.

Instead, our seeking first of the kingdom and righteousness of God[1] gives us a daily focus that will be busy enough concerning ourselves with only today’s needs, while humbly praying about anything regarding the future with a sense that we want nothing except the fullness of our Father’s will both now and forevermore.

With this video, you are invited to join our home church in exploring how to pray, “Give us this day our daily bread” in every way that is needed, and to humbly seek to join our heavenly Father in every way he chooses to answer our prayer.

Home Church Video ~ The Frenemy Committee Goes Down

The term, “Frenemy,” refers to a friend who may regularly feel like an enemy. Their on-off way of relating can be mind-boggling, confusing, frustrating, and sometimes downright hurtful.

Imagine a Committee made up of both friends and enemies. What is difficult in dealing with a single Frenemy is now compounded by a group of individuals who are seeking opposing aims. Coming to any kind of consensus on what to do is excessively exasperating.

This home church message takes us on a journey through the mind of the Frenemy Committee, and sets before us the necessity of closing it down wherever it is making the decisions.

The fact is that God’s children already have the Father, Son and Holy Spirit to guide us through their word to know and do the will of God, and the Disciples’ prayer teaches us how to pray about everything that comes up.

So, no Frenemy Committee required or desired. Join us as we learn to shut it down.
