Consider this passage from God’s word with a special emphasis
on the sovereignty of his grace in bringing us into his eternal salvation.
13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of
your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,
14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it,
to the praise of his glory. (Ephesians 1)
Copy/paste the study below into your word processor and
prayer journal whatever the Holy Spirit speaks to your heart through this
Scripture. Ask God to show you what each part communicates of his sovereignty
to accomplish what he has chosen to do, and his grace in doing for us what we
do not deserve.[1]
“In him”
“you also,”
“when you heard the
word of truth,”
“the gospel of your
salvation,”
“and believed in him,”
“were sealed with the
promised Holy Spirit,”
“who is the guarantee
of our inheritance”
“until we acquire
possession of it,”
“to the praise of his
glory.”

Of course, reading the whole context from Ephesians 1:3-14 is an even greater
study to emphasize both God’s sovereignty to do what he set out to do, and the
grace that would move him to do so.
